The ever growing, seemingly never ending list. For awhile it seemed completely overwhelming. Too much stuff to do, and not enough time to do it in. Then I decided not to even try to chip away at it until I quit my job. Then I\u2019d have plenty of time to check stuff off the list. Or so I thought. That\u2019s when The List really started growing.<\/p>\n

I keep track of The List with a program called wunderlist. I actually have two lists, one called \u201cVan Stuff\u201d and the other called \u201cTrip Preparation.\u201d Between the two there are currently 49 completed items and 24 incomplete items.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s a sample of a few of the items on each list:<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Buy \/ install air compressor<\/td>\nFigure out medical \/ evac insurance<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Buy tools<\/td>\nFind a property manager<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Install battery chargers for camera, flashlights, etc.<\/td>\nFix all the little things broken in the house so we can rent it out<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Mount CO monitor<\/td>\nRoll over retirement accounts from our jobs<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Install inverter<\/td>\nSwitch to travel-friendly credit cards<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Install USB power ports<\/td>\nSell furniture<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Get new tires<\/td>\nGet a storage locker<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

The stuff on the left is related to our vehicle. The stuff on the right is more or less necessary for any extended trip abroad, and it shows just how much work is involved to unplug our lives from the web of connections we build when we\u2019re living in one place for a long time. <\/p>\n

But painful though it is, severing those connections once in awhile can result in real sense of freedom \u2013 suddenly nothing is tying us to a specific location. We\u2019re free to travel, to move to a new town or a new country, even try a new line of work.<\/p>\n

We don\u2019t know how this trip will turn out \u2013 whether we\u2019ll still be on the road in two years, or whether we\u2019ll get sick of living with each other 24\/7 in a space the size of a walk-in closet. But either way we now have the freedom to try something new, something different, and see if it works out.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
